One important factor which contributes to the road accident is the friction road surface. Friction needs vary with different types of road surfaces and under different circumstances. Three types of pavements constructed with limestone aggregate namely, Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete and penetration macadam were selected. The criteria used in the selection were that each type of pavement would differ in age and texture depth but have similar traffic volume, environmental conditions and geometric design. A Mu-meter was used to record friction values in both wet and dry conditions and percentage of non carbonate in samples of limestone aggregate were determined. The effects of speed, texture depth, age and water film thickness on skid values were investigated.
